Having a routine exfoliating practice is great for eliminating the dead and dry skin that can easily accumulate during the cold season.

Do your skin and your wallet a favor by trying some of these luxurious spa-worthy DIY body scrub recipes.

Cellulite Busting Almond Coffee Scrub

Have a few extra dimples and rumples in the thigh region? No problem.

This scrub is effective in helping to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

The caffeine, when applied topically, will help to dilate the blood vessels, which in turn works to tighten and tone your tissue.

Coffee is also high in antioxidants which not only helps to reduce the appearance of troublesome cellulite but also will help you to release some toxins.

The recipe below calls for Shea Moisture Superfruit Complex, however as stated below any carrier oil will do the trick.

If you plan on using the scrub for its cellulite busting benefits, then I do HIGHLY recommend using the Shea Moisture Superfruit Complex oil simply because it has a green coffee extract in it which will double the cellulite fighting power.

When dealing with cellulite, nothing is too much.

The almond extract not only makes this scrub smell amazing (gives it a chocolaty scent) it helps soothe dry skin by adding much-needed proteins to the blend and locking in moisture.

This one is best used in the morning, the coffee in the scrub will have you ready to conquer the world: radiant skin and all.

  • 1 cup Ground Coffee
  • 1/3 cup Sea Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Pure Almond Extract
  • 1 tablespoon Vitamin E Oil
  • 3 tablespoons Shea Moisture Superfruit Complex Bath, Body, & Massage Oil (You can substitute any carrier oil)
  • 1 Securely Fastening Jar

In a large mixing bowl, combine the coffee grounds and the sea salt, mix the two well. Next, add in all of the oils and stir until everything is mixed together, and the texture is even throughout. Transfer the mixture to the jar that it will be stored in and close tightly.

Lavender Salt Scrub

Salt scrubs back a double whammy.

They are not only wonderful at combating inflammation.

But also work to help improve circulation.

If that were not enough salt scrubs also help with unclogging pores, and killing off harmful bacteria that could be growing on the skin.

This scrub is great at removing hardened dead skin from the body, and uncovering the glowing fresh, and rejuvenated skin that lies beneath.

Removing dead skin cells that have accumulated over time promotes the growth of brand new healthy skin cells.

These new skin cells actually work to tighten the skin, which of course gives the skin a more youthful, and firm appearance.

This scrub will leave your skin soft, moisturized, and glowing.

As an added bonus, the lavender will leave you calm and reduce stress levels, while making your bathroom smell like you have been transported to your favourite high-end spa—all without breaking the bank.

  • 1/2 cup Epsom Salt
  • 1/2 cup Sea Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Coconut Oil (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon Vitamin E Oil
  • 3 pinches of Dried Lavender (optional)
  • 7 drops Lavender Essential Oil
  • Mortar & Pestle (or a hard spoon for grinding)
  • Tightly Sealing Jar

Combine the salts in a large mixing bowl, if using dried lavender add that in at this time as well.

Mix the salts and lavender together.

Use the mortar and Pestle or a hard utensil to grind the salts and dried lavender together.

Add in all of the oils and mix until there is an even consistency throughout. Transfer mixture to the jar that it will be stored in.

*if using dried lavender please note that the cleanup job after your shower will be a bit more strenuous because the lavender tends to have a mind of its own and gets all over the place.

It makes the scrub look and smells amazing though so I personally think it’s worth it, however, the dried lavender can be left out.

Brown Sugar & Honey Scrub

Brown Sugar is full of glycolic acid, which is critical for maintaining healthy skin.

This acid is found in many high-end skin care products, with a brown sugar scrub you get a 100% natural form at a much cheaper cost. Both wins.

Brown sugar is made of smaller, more gentle particles so this scrub is great for sensitive skin.

It has enough texture to provide for good exfoliation, but since the particles are smaller, it does not provide such a harsh scrub.

The combination of brown sugar and honey smells great, but the honey also helps to moisturize the skin and retain the natural moisture balance of our largest organ.

This scrubs works wonders at helping to combat acne breakouts by eliminating all acne-causing bacteria from the skin.

  • 1 cup Brown Sugar
  • 3 tablespoons Honey
  • 3 tablespoons Coconut Oil
  • 2 teaspoons Vitamin E Oil
  • Tightly sealing jar

In a large mixing bowl combine the brown sugar, honey, and both of the oils.

Mix all the ingredients together until an even texture is achieved.

Transfer the mixture into the jar in which it will be stored.

Final Notes & Storage Information

Apply the scrub to the body in circular motions.

For maximum effects, you can use a dry brush to apply the scrub to the skin.

I recommend using a scoop to get the mixture out whenever you plan on using it.

This will help prevent any bacteria from growing.

The Vitamin E, and the sea salt work as natural preservatives, however, I still recommend throwing out any portion of the scrub that remains unused after three months.
