Olive oil, once only considered a healthy food ingredient, has gained popularity as a beauty treatment.
It’s soothing, hydrating properties make it terrific for increasing the softness of hair and skin.
If your hair is dry and brittle, an olive oil mask will restore its bounce and shine.
You can also use it as a deep conditioning treatment to restore your hair’s body and moisture balance.
Olive oil conditioner
Start by pouring 120ml of olive oil into a double boiler, also called a bane-marie, and heat it until it’s hot, but not bubbling.
Put a towel around your shoulders to protect your clothes from spillage and pour a coin-sized amount of oil into your hand—use more if your hair is long.
Now massage the oil into your hair from the scalp downwards.
If your scalp is oily, begin the process an inch away, so it doesn’t become greasier.
Cover your hair in olive oil, put on a plastic cap—which will create heat—and wait for thirty minutes before washing your hair with your regular shampoo.
The result will be softer, more manageable hair that looks healthy. Use the treatment once a fortnight for the best results.
Olive oil hair mask
If your hair is brittle, you’ll benefit from an olive oil, banana, honey, and egg mask to nourish it.
You’ll need one egg, three tablespoons of olive oil, one ripe banana, and a tablespoon of honey.
Chop and pulp the banana, add it to the other ingredients, and mix them into a paste.
Apply the mask to your hair with a hair dye brush, pop on a shower cap, and leave the concoction in place for twenty minutes.
Then wash your hair with a gentle shampoo, seal moisture in with a little conditioner, and rinse with warm water.
Repeat the treatment twice a month for shiny, hydrated hair.
The beauty market’s full of chemical-laden hydrating hair products, but if you prefer a natural treatment straight from your kitchen, try olive oil.
Use it for deep conditioning or as a once-a-month hair mask, and your tresses will be in tip-top condition.
