What Can Show Up on Skin
The skin is one of the first tell-tale signs of an unhealthy diet or lifestyle. If you drink too much alcohol, smoke, spend too much time in the sun or do not manage stress effectively and burn both ends of the candle, your skin will come across as dull, lifeless, aged, blotchy, of course, blackheads and other skin problems surface.
The easiest way to counter this is to adopt a more healthy diet and lifestyle. Also, paying more attention to and taking better care of your skin pays off.
One of the biggest complaints about skin is acne. Acne does not discriminate. All races and ages can experience various forms of acne. From teenagers to adults, acne can find you unless you take better care of yourself.
Definition and Causes of Blackheads
What exactly are blackheads, and what causes them to show up on your skin? Acne has different levels of severity. There are four basic acne levels, listed below in the order of severity.
- Blackheads
- Whiteheads
- Pimples
- Cysts
The good news about blackheads is that they are in the first acne level, or the least severe form of acne to contend with. A blackhead, by definition, is formed when pores are blocked or clogged closer to the skin’s surface.
The pores become blocked when too much oil (or sebum) is generated in the sebaceous glands, located right under the skin’s surface.
Where does all the excess oil come from? In most cases, an increase in oil production is generally due to hormonal changes. You’ve heard the expression that teenagers are “walking hormones.” In a way, that is true because a teenager’s body is growing and changing during puberty, which leads to constant fluctuation in hormone levels. Hormonal changes can also result from menopause, pregnancy, stress, and taking certain drugs like steroids. All of these can throw your hormones just enough out of whack to cause acne or blackheads on your skin.
These things can also produce too much bacteria, when mixed with the already-existing bacteria in your system, causes blackheads. Excessive touching or rubbing of the skin can also aggravate the skin or leave other bacteria on the skin. Wearing heavy, oily skin creams or heavy makeup can clog pores, resulting in acne.
Blackheads like to form on the nose because the pores there are often a bit larger than the pores on other areas of your skin. Blackheads usually do not become inflamed, and most are relatively small in size compared to whiteheads or pimples. They appear black because they take on a darker pigmentation of the skin. While blackheads appear “dirty” because of the dark color, there is no dirt trapped in the blackheads.
How to Remove Blackheads Naturally from Nose
Because blackheads mainly form on the nose, we’ll concentrate on eliminating them from there, but you can use these tips to get rid of them from any area of the skin.
The first step is to loosen the blackheads from the pores to eliminate them more effectively. As with any form of acne, you do not want to squeeze or pop the area because this can lead to permanent scarring and an increased amount of harmful bacteria or oil to find its way to that area of the skin. It can also lead to infection and inflammation, which you want to avoid.
To loosen the blackhead from the skin surface, steaming the skin for a few minutes to open up the pores is the best thing to do. You may also place a warm washcloth over the area for a few minutes.
Once the pores have been opened, wash the area with an antibacterial or anti-acne soap to clean the skin and kill the other bacteria from the area. You can gently exfoliate the skin/nose area. This may release many of the blackheads from the pores and answer how to remove blackheads naturally from the nose or skin.
You may also try a clay, anti-acne or blackhead mask for the skin. What this does is pull the blackheads from the pores. Leave the mask on for a couple of minutes, usually until it dries. Wash the mask off with clean, warm water.
Follow up with a cold water rinse, which will help close the pores.
Apply an antibacterial or medicated acne cream as a final step.
You can use this daily skincare routine every day for the next week or two, and use the mask 2 to 3 times per week to eliminate the blackheads and keep them from re-forming on the nose or skin surface.
While it is essential to keep your skin as clean as possible, remember that blackheads themselves are not caused by trapped dirt, nor do they reflect poor hygiene or dirty skin.
Use clean pillowcases, avoid excessive touching of the skin, and avoid heavy or oily creams or makeup. Hypo-allergenic skincare products are good to use and help keep from clogging the pores.
So now you have a plan as to how to remove blackheads from the nose or skin. Follow the method every day for a week or two for the best results. From there, two to three times a week should work to maintain your clear, blackhead-free nose and skin.
If you can maintain your pores clear and bacteria to a minimum, you are well on your way to keeping your skin clear of blackheads from your nose or any other part of your skin.
