It often happens; you are in such a hurry that you can’t even have a look in the mirror before you hit the door. And later, when you reach your workplace, you see the blunders like patchy foundation or smudged eyeliner etc. In situations like this, makeup hacks will be your lifesaver.
Makeup is an art. One needs practice and time to master it. Also, the correct technique and tips are necessary. And once you master it, you can never fail it.
Makeup hacks for every woman
Here are some quick makeup hacks that can save you from such blunders and save your precious time.
1. Tone your skin.
Toning is when you use water-based liquid formula onto your skin to cleanse your skin and make your skin pores shrink. When your skin pores shrink, there are fewer chances of dirt accumulating and cause infection.
Toning your skin is good for the skin as it cleanses your skin from within and makes the skin feel more alive.
If you don’t want to use any chemical toner or anything, you can also use apple cider vinegar as a toner. It has similar acidic properties to that of toner and also is good for your skin.
How To:
For Toner:
- Dab some toner on a cotton pad.
- Cleanse your face with the toner and let it stay for some time.
For apple cider vinegar:
- Dilute the apple cider vinegar in a 1:3 ratio.
- Dab a tiny amount of the liquid onto a cotton pad and dab it on your whole face.
2. Moisturiser is a must.
What does a moisturiser do?
- A moisturiser increases your skin’s hydration by reducing evaporation. Moisturiser makes your skin softer and protects it from exterior agents like dirt and temperature to damage skin. They act as lubricants for your skin.
- Your skin needs moisturising to grow softly. People with oily skin think that just because they have oily skin, they can’t use a moisturiser or shouldn’t. No. It’s a myth and needs to be broken. The oil secreted by the oily skin is the excess oil in your body. It has nothing to do with your skin type.
- Use a matte based moisturiser to keep the softness of your skin alive. In winters, moisturiser becomes even more necessary. Try and figure out which type of moisturiser suits your skin type, and do use it. It’s a must.
3. Exfoliate to make your lipstick last longer.
Exfoliating your lips once a week or once every two weeks is a must. Exfoliating your lips helps in getting rid of the dead skin and also removes the dirt.
How To:
- Take a toothbrush and apply some petroleum jelly to your lips.
- Rub the toothbrush all over your lips to remove the dead skin.
- Keep it for some time, and then rinse it off.
- Take some honey and sugar and mix them well to make a paste.
- Rub it all over your lips to remove the dead skin.
- Keep it for about 2-3 mins and then rinse it off.
Baking soda paste:
- Take some baking soda and mix some amount of water in it to make a paste.
- Rub it over your lips to take the dead skin off.
- Keep it for some time, and then rinse it off.
Exfoliating the lips gets the dead skin off, making the lips fresh and beautiful. Also, the fresh new skin is more effective in holding on to your lips than the previous one.
4. Contour.
Contouring is the overall application of the foundation all over the face for the perfect look. Highlighting and contouring your face brings out your features and gives you a perfectly sculpted look.
Contouring involves three steps:
- Use a concealer, prefer one shade lighter to your skin tone concealer, dab it on the circles beneath your eyes. Blend it up and out on the top (forehead). Blend it down the bridge of your nose and a little on the outer of the mouth. It looks lovely if you are doing a bright mouth. Dab very little on the sides of the nose. And you are done with step 1.
- Highlight your cheekbones with a slightly darker shade concealer or foundation. Just apply it over your cheekbone in the line giving it an excellent edge and dewy effect.
- Contouring is the final step. It is the final touch up. You can use a darker coloured blush or foundation, or powder. Draw figure 3 on either side of your face. Starting from the top (forehead) to below the cheekbone and then ending it into the jawline. And once you are done making the three on either side of your face, blend it with the same brush. And here you have your perfectly contoured look.
5. Wash your brushes weekly.
- You must clean your brushes, makeup brushes once a week. It is a must.
- It helps in getting all the extra blush, foundation, colour, etc., off the brush. So the next time you use it, you don’t have a pinch of the last look. Also, it makes your meetings last longer.
- You must not neglect to wash your makeup brushes every week.
6. For a no-makeup look
If you wish to go for a minimal or no-makeup look, all you need to do is put a moisturiser and use your mascara onto your lower lashes to give them a teased look. Also, just touching the mascara to your lower lid giving it a dewy look.
You can team it up with a lovely nude shade lipstick, and you are good to go.
This look is great for your office and formal meetings. You have a variety of shades for nude lipsticks. Rush to your nearest cosmetic store and grab some lovely and gorgeous lipsticks. Also, make sure to get some suiting your skin tone. A contrasting lippy will look fabulous.
7. Hold mascara vertically to get teased lashes.
Always use mascara, holding it vertically. Mascara can be used by holding into the direction of the eye, but it works excellent when held vertically.
To get that teased lashes, it is advised to hold the mascara wand vertically.
8. Avoid using cream moisturiser.
In case you have oily skin, avoid using a cream moisturiser all over your face. Oily skin already has that greasy look, and creamy moisturiser makes it look even oilier. Also making it more prone to dust and dirt and hence to acne.
The creamy look makes you look dull. All the dirt and dust stick to your face and block the pores, resulting in acne and breakouts.
9. Use a blending sponge for a smooth foundation.
We often encounter patches on our face cause of the imperfect application of foundation. As I earlier said, makeup is an art, which requires practice to master.
To avoid the patchy look, use a blending sponge even to tone your foundation.
How To:
Take a blending sponge and gently rub it all over your face in a rolling motion to avoid the patches and make sure you have an even tone foundation.
